Two Detentions in the Aftermath of London Heathrow Irritant Spray Attack

The assault caused the partial shutdown of the CTA tunnel and the T3 car park.

An additional two individuals have been arrested related to a theft at Heathrow Airport where 21 people sustained injuries by what is thought to be pepper spray, according to police.

A 24-year-old man, was taken into custody in Lambeth for suspected theft and assault and a 23-year-old woman was detained on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery. They both are still being held, the force said.

The arrests come after a probe into an assault at the multi-level parking garage at Heathrow's Terminal 3 this past Sunday. Prior to the incident, two women had stolen from them their luggage upon exiting a car park lift.

A toddler aged three was among the injured during the incident. A total of five individuals went to hospital for medical care and were later discharged.

Officers arrested a 31-year-old man for suspected theft and assault near the scene. He has since been released under investigation as the investigation proceeds.

Authorities were called at about 08:10 GMT following reports of several individuals hurt by a noxious substance believed to be pepper spray.

The assault - an event that police said was a standalone incident and not considered an act of terror - resulted in train delays and the temporary shutdown of the Central Terminal Area tunnel and the T3 car park briefly.
