The older brother of the perpetrator testified his family "could not manage" of their offspring and he feared his younger sibling would murder a member of their relatives, a public inquiry has learned.
The individual, aged 17 at the time, fatally attacked three children at a Taylor Swift-themed dance workshop on 29 July 2024.
The hearing, held at a civic building, heard the attacker's brother Dion Rudakubana warned a acquaintance there was a danger of his relative "committing an act that could kill."
The investigation was informed the brother told his associate over the digital service: "Confrontations are terrifying because of the danger of loss of life."
The sibling stated his sibling reminded him of the sociopathic murderer in the film the Coen brothers film.
Growing Tensions
The inquiry learned Dion was identified with a medical condition at the twelve years old which led to him using a wheelchair and his parents providing increased care.
Questioned by Richard Boyle, legal representative, if that altered their dynamic he said: "There was tension that resulted."
Dion acknowledged his brother appeared to resent this shift.
He revealed to the inquiry that after the family moved from Cardiff to the seaside town his brother's moods deteriorated and he would have "physical explosions."
The inquiry learned Dion became "progressively concerned" of his relative, who would strike him often.
He testified: "I was forced to be wary if I did speak to him because every argument could become an confrontation."
'Serious fears'
He testified his relative became significantly more violent after he was removed from his school in that region, in autumn 2019.
He went to college in that year and the brothers spoke less and less "because he was not familiar with having me around."
The hearing was told about a communication Dion wrote to a contact on Discord in which he said his brother was annoyed by him speaking late at night because of the limited soundproofing in their home.
He further revealed to his contact there was a danger of "his committing an act potentially fatal."
He wrote: "Confrontations are terrifying because of the threat of someone dying."
The counsel inquired: "You had serious fears that your brother would kill a individual of your relatives?"
He responded: "In case matters intensified to that extent."
Mr Boyle inquired how his family dealt with the perpetrator's aggression.
"It didn't make sense to attempt to discipline him," he stated. "Moreover, there was a heavy risk in doing so.
"We said there was a overall danger to well-being in casual discussion, if you attempt to challenge him... it wouldn't be responded to well."
When the lawyer inquired if his mother and father had been unable to handle of his brother, he concurred.
Inquired concerning his brother being similar to a character from the picture No Country for Old Men, the brother stated: "It was said that character's supposed to be a sociopath and that's why I employed that term there."
The brother said the final contact he had with his sibling was in the summer of 2023.
He acknowledged that their mother and father told the perpetrator to bid farewell to him as he was departing to visit his friends and his brother threw a bottle at him but the entryway shut before it struck.
The inquiry ongoing.
